Hi, and welcome to Cottontail Quilts! We have been in the historic Bozeman family home located in downtown Kennesaw for the last eleven years and we LOVE our quilty community.

Our goals are big but simple. Number one- we want to have fun and we want our customers to have fun. So, we are serious about customer service and friendliness. Number two- What do we want? FABRIC! When do we want it? NOW!  We want to continually bring our customers new and interesting fabrics and sewing notions to get your creative juices flowing. Number three- we want to honor this centuries old treasure of a hobby by passing our skills and knowledge on to friends, family and new quilters.

Meet Our Staff

Lisa Showalter is Cottontail Quilts' manager and is the bubblegum holding all of us together. Besides working at the shop last eight years she has been married 37 years, raised four children and now has four grandsons. (They're handsome! We've seen the pictures to prove it.) Lisa started quilting in 2005 with a friends and is now one of our instructors! If you ever need help with your paper piecing Lisa is the one to call. Lisa also holds shop retreats a few times a year; they generally sell out pretty quick so if ever want a seat let us know!
Jackie Headley needs no introduction for many of our customers. She has been in the Kennesaw area for 44 years and has raised her family here. She has two daughters, one son, one granddaughter and one grandson. Like me, Jackie's grandmother taught her to sew but it was a friend's cousin who got her into quilting 18+ years ago. Jackie is also our resident long-armer!
Cindy has been with Cottontail Quilts for three and a half years and holds the fort down on Saturdays. Customers love her because Cindy LOVES everything. Seriously, she is known to get excited about and love every project she's shown. She is one of five siblings and has been quilting for 15 plus years. Cindy is a true fabric lover; she loves batiks, contemporary and traditional fabrics all alike. !

Susan Kimbrough
is a fun new addition to shop. She is a customer turned employee! After living in East Cobb for 30+ years, she moved out to the bright side in West Cobb 3 years ago where she found us. Susan enjoys sewing more contemporary designs with bright colors.
Dawn Filzen learned to sew from her mom when she was in grade school and has been quilting for almost 30 years. She loves all things quilting; pieced quilts, collage, art quilts, paper piecing, bags, applique, free motion and she long arm quilts! She enjoys bright, fun, and creative fabrics. Some of her favorite designers and quilters are Riley Blake Designs, (Lori Holt), Moda Fabrics (too many to name), McKenna Ryan, Buttermilk Basin (Stacy West), By Annie and Sallie Tomato (bags) and Angela Walters.

Our Instructors

Muriel Pfaff is well known as the The Quilt Teacher and has a fascinating background with her interests in history and different quilting techniques. Muriel is a gifted teacher and people gatherer who also lectures nationally on famous women in history. With Muriel, students can learn everything from the basics of piecing to advanced hand appliqué, from Lori Holt to Betsy Ross. Her love for reproduction quilting is contagious!

Have you ever seen those really in-depth artist collage quilts and thought, "Wow! What creativity. I could never do that!"? Oh, yes, you can and Nancy Hutchinson is the teacher who will help you get started. Nancy has been a certified Fiberworks instructor since 2018 and also teaches the one-block wonder technique. She lives in the Acworth/Kennesaw area and when she's not teaching quilting she is a full-time RN and full-time pet mom. She has a sweet but anxious dog and two cats who often make their way into her collage quilts.

Carol Stanek has been sewing since she was a child and made her first “Judy Niemeyer” paper pieced quilt, Arizona Cactus, in 2013. After falling in love with the organized preparation and sewing process of Quiltworx patterns, Carol was hooked on Judy’s way to paper piece! After attending workshops taught by Judy and other certified instructors Carol became a Certified Instructor in August 2015.

She also teaches Creative Grids tools with Deb Heatherly patterns and Karen Eckmeier’s Accidental Landscape classes in the Southeast USA. She loves teaching and seeing her students grow more confident in creating these beautiful quilts!

Carol lives in Kennesaw with her Australian Shepherd and rescue cats. She has three grown children and her most favorite thing to do is making quilts and traveling! You will find more information on Carol’s classes and events on her website, www.stitchwithcolor.com

Having earned the title of the Glue Queen in quilting, Sandi Richmond is our very own in-house Wool Applique and Embroidery instructor who has through the year taught quilting, beading, kumihimo braiding and Sue Spargo wool applique. We asked her husband for some insight into Sandi and just loved his response:

"Clearly the most talented and beautiful instructor, she is currently a Smyrna resident and lives with her young boy toy husband and their 2 dogs, Klaus (a GSD) and Rutger (Doberman).

Sandi Richmond brings all her knowledge to bear as our newest instructor here at the store. Her creative interests include outdoor photography and quilting. With her over 30 years of blah blah blah experience in blah blah blah, you know you are getting the real deal. Her blunt and no nonsense style might not be for everyone however, you can rest assured that her honest assessment of your learning accomplishments will bear out your efforts.

When she tells you, you've done a good job, you'll know its true. Not to say, her class isn't without fun and humorous interaction. It's just that Sandi will not let you forget that this is a serious creative endeavor for those willing to put forth the effort. Creative enjoyment and accomplishment are her main goals."

And, guess what? Dawn Filzen is also one of our instructors!!
